Johanna & Louis’s Day at Solitaire Homestead

Johanna and Louis celebrated their wedding at Solitaire Homestead in beautiful Dunsborough, surrounded by Margaret River’s vibrant scenery and the gentle hum of late summer. Their day was the perfect mix of joy and meaning—filled with easy laughter, beaming smiles, and heartfelt connections from start to finish.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with the countryside’s natural beauty setting the stage. The spirit of tradition was woven throughout the day: Louis and his groomsmen wore classic Scottish tartan kilts, adding both bold color and a sense of family heritage to the occasion. Small nods to Scotland popped up everywhere, honoring loved ones and making the celebration feel truly personal.

As their videographer, I captured every moment using a blend of mini DV camcorder, super 8mm film, and digital cameras. The mix of modern and vintage footage perfectly suited the day—timeless, nostalgic, and full of emotion, just like Johanna and Louis themselves.

The ceremony was led by the thoughtful and energetic Laurie Peoples, whose warmth put everyone at ease. Each vow felt genuine and deeply felt, and the ancient handfasting tradition—where ribbons are tied around the couple’s joined hands—was especially moving, symbolizing their commitment and unity. Family and friends wiped away happy tears and shared in the joy, the air buzzing with love and excitement for the newlyweds.

As the sun set and the fairy lights began to glow, the celebration carried on with delicious food, heartfelt speeches, and guests sharing laughter and stories over a glass of custom gin. The dance floor came alive under the stars, and every embrace and carefree twirl made it clear: this was a day built on love, heritage, and the joy of being together.
