The art of
getting married

A Note From Zaneta

A place very
close to my heart.

I grew up in Margaret River, surrounded by farmland, the ocean, towering forests and the ever-changing light of the South West. It's a place that has shaped both who I am and the way I create.

Having photographed weddings for over fifteen years, I've been fortunate to witness celebrations in some truly beautiful places and work alongside incredibly talented local people.

This little guide is a collection of places I love, wonderful creatives and a few things I've learned along the way. I hope it helps you dream up a day that feels entirely your own.

01 / Intimate Weddings & Elopements

Where the forest
meets the sea.

For couples dreaming of something intimate, meaningful and a little wild, I can't think of many places more beautiful than the forests and coastline of Margaret River.

Boranup Karri Forest

A little magic
among the trees.

Boranup Forest has always been one of my favourite places for intimate wedding portraits and elopements. There's something extraordinary about the scale of the trees, the softness of the forest light and how beautifully intimate everything feels beneath them.

Nearby coastal locations such as Contos and Hamelin Bay offer a completely different atmosphere, making it possible to bring both forest and ocean into your wedding story.

A Moment on Genuine Super 8

The smallest moments.
The biggest feelings.

A first kiss, exchanged rings, the anticipation of a little ceremony among the trees.

This is one of the things I love most about genuine Super 8 film. It preserves the movement and beautiful imperfections of a moment in a way that feels almost like a memory.

By the Ocean

For the love
of the last light.

The coast near Boranup is especially beautiful in the late afternoon, when the ocean and surrounding landscape begin to take on those soft, golden tones.

Even if your ceremony is elsewhere, allowing a little time for coastal portraits can add something really special to the day.

A little planning note: public beach and national park ceremonies may require permission from the relevant managing authority. It's worth checking the requirements before settling on your location.

02 / A Few Beautiful Places

Places to fall
in love with.

From old-world gardens and grand vineyard estates to understated forest retreats, these are some of the venues I love for the different kinds of celebrations they make possible.

01 / Rolling Hills & Vineyard Views

Credaro Family Estate.

For rolling hills, native trees and elegant vineyard celebrations.

I love Credaro for the way the vineyards, rolling hills and scattered native trees come together. It has a distinctly South West character, but with beautiful Tuscan-inspired architecture and an elegant atmosphere.

I recently photographed Dionne and Brett's wedding here, and the setting felt every bit as beautiful as the celebration itself — expansive, grounded and romantic in a very South West way.

02 / Intimate Luxury

La Forêt.

For old-world romance and intimate garden celebrations.

La Forêt is one of those places that feels a little like stepping into another world.

With European-inspired gardens, beautiful stone elements and an intimate riverside setting, it's particularly lovely for couples planning a small, thoughtfully considered celebration.

03 / Whimsical Garden Celebrations

Margaret River's
Secret Garden.

For gardens, natural beauty and a little bit of magic.

I love the sense of intimacy and atmosphere at Margaret River's Secret Garden. It's a beautiful setting for a ceremony among established greenery, with so many possibilities for creating a celebration that feels personal.

Anna and Nick's wedding here was a beautiful reminder of how much the little things matter — from the ceremony music and garden atmosphere to the energy of everyone celebrating together.

04 / Heritage Gardens & Coastal Romance

Caves House Hotel.

Old-world charm, beautiful gardens and the magic of nearby Yallingup.

Caves House is one of my favourite places for its incredible atmosphere. The heritage architecture, soft garden light and established trees make it feel romantic without needing much embellishment.

I also love how close it is to the Yallingup coastline — perfect for couples who want a garden wedding with the possibility of beautiful sunset portraits by the ocean.

Beautiful From the Beginning

A little light.
A little nostalgia.

I particularly love the atmosphere of getting ready at Caves House. The character of the rooms and beautiful natural light create such evocative moments on film, even before the celebrations begin.

When the Evening Begins

And then,
the dancing.

The beautiful part about a wedding film is remembering the movement and energy of the celebration, not just how everything looked.

Dancing at Caves House, captured on genuine Super 8, has that nostalgic, wonderfully imperfect feeling I love.

Just Beyond the Gardens

A little time
by the ocean.

For couples marrying around Yallingup, I love the possibility of sneaking away to the coast for a little time together as the light begins to fade.

Canal Rocks is such a dramatic place for sunset portraits, with the ocean, rock formations and changing evening light.

It's worth allowing enough travel time and checking sunset timing, accessibility and weather before making coastal portraits part of your wedding-day schedule.

05 / Forest Weddings & Weekend Gatherings

Harmony Forest.

For the deeply personal, the nature-loving and the DIY at heart.

I have such a soft spot for wedding celebrations where everyone can stay together, slow the pace and spend time surrounded by nature.

Harmony Forest has a beautiful, unpretentious character that makes it especially lovely for couples wanting a meaningful, intimate or DIY-style celebration.

A Celebration Among the Trees

Entirely
your own.

The forest, the quiet and the possibility of having loved ones nearby throughout the weekend create such a special feeling.

The property offers a lakeside lodge and a collection of self-contained cottages, making it a beautiful option for a gathering centred around time together.

03 / The People Behind the Magic

The wonderful people
who make it happen.

One of my favourite parts of photographing weddings is working alongside incredibly talented local creatives.

These are some of the people I've loved working with over the years, along with a few beautiful businesses worth exploring as you plan your day.

Botanical Artistry

Flowers & florals.

From sculptural floral arrangements and abundant garden blooms to beautiful locally grown flowers, there are so many wonderful artists working with nature.

Thoughtfully Considered Details

Planning & styling.

A wonderful planner or stylist can make such a difference to the experience of the day. I particularly loved the incredible atmosphere Perryn created for a recent wedding at Credaro.

The Words That Matter

Celebrants.

A beautiful ceremony is at the heart of everything. These celebrants bring personality, warmth and an appreciation for meaningful, individual love stories.

Gather Around the Table

Food & dining.

Incredible food is such an important part of the atmosphere of a wedding, especially here in a region celebrated for beautiful local produce.

Setting the Atmosphere

Music & entertainment.

Music can completely transform the feeling of a celebration, from live strings at the ceremony to acoustic performances over cocktails and a dance floor full of everyone you love.

A Beautiful Beginning

Hair & makeup.

The morning of your wedding deserves to feel just as beautiful as the celebration itself. Thoughtful, experienced beauty artists can help everything come together.

A Little Something Sweet

Cakes & desserts.

From sculptural wedding cakes to delicious French pâtisserie, these are some beautiful makers worth discovering when planning those little celebratory details.

The Paper Details

Stationery & signage.

Beautiful typography, considered papers and personal details are some of the small things that can make a wedding feel so wonderfully individual.

Getting Everyone There

Guest transport.

With so many stunning wedding locations tucked away throughout the South West, organised guest transfers can make the day easier for everyone.

A Personal Recommendation

Music makes
the memories.

I've been lucky to experience some truly beautiful wedding music recently.

I especially loved the strings performed by Dolce Ensembles at Anna and Nick's wedding, and Dan White's live music and DJ performance at Dionne and Brett's celebration at Credaro.

There's something very special about music that creates an atmosphere throughout the day, then brings everyone together on the dance floor as the evening unfolds.

04 / A Little Local Wisdom

A few things
worth thinking about.

You don't need every detail figured out, but a little thoughtful planning can make the day feel beautifully effortless.

01 / The Light

Make a little room
for sunset.

Whether you're getting married in a vineyard, forest or near the coast, I always recommend thinking about the light. Sometimes just ten or fifteen minutes together near sunset can create the most beautiful photographs.

02 / The Journey

Consider the
travel time.

Some of the South West's loveliest portrait locations are a drive from the venue. It's worth considering parking, travel and the time you'll want to spend celebrating with guests.

03 / The Experience

Make it feel
like you.

The most meaningful celebrations aren't necessarily the most elaborate. I love weddings that feel personal, where the people, place, music and little traditions genuinely reflect the couple.

04 / The Ceremony

Check public
location permissions.

If you're dreaming of getting married on a beach or in the forest, check the location's ceremony requirements early. Rules depend on whether the land is Shire-managed or managed as a national park.

Official Shire Guidance ↗
05 / The Guests

Think about
your people.

If your guests are travelling from interstate or staying across Margaret River, Yallingup and Dunsborough, accommodation and organised transfers can make the whole experience easier.

06 / Your Photography

A timeline
with room to breathe.

I love helping couples create wedding timelines that make space for beautiful portraits while also allowing them to experience their day. There's no need to have everything decided before reaching out.

The most beautiful thing about a wedding is never just how it looked — but how it felt.

All my friends and family are in awe, and can't stop talking about it! Those film photos! *Chefs kiss*. The hard part now is choosing our favourites to make into an album! There's too many!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for photographing our elopement. Your flexibility to the change in plans and spontaneity took away all our concerns for the weather and allowed us to really embrace the beauty of it all.

Zaneta provided the most wonderful service to me and my husband. The video was a masterpiece that I have watched over 100 times and it still captivates me.

The attention to detail, the beautiful imagery, the heart felt way it was pieced together and the energy it beholds and allows us to remember is priceless. It has made the day that much more special as it has highlighted so much of its meaning to us- the voices of the day, the beauty of the surrounding landscape and the joy we all felt.
